The TWIKE is particularly popular in everyday life: the lithium-ion batteries are simply recharged after each journey. Even after short journeys, the TWIKE can be reconnected to the power socket. There is no need for time-consuming battery maintenance, as was necessary with earlier battery generations. There is no longer any memory effect.

The battery, which is called Li-Ion manganese accumulator by its full name, today has the best ratio between energy density, service life and price. The high capacity, fast charging capability, high cycle stability, temperature insensitivity and simple handling have opened up a new dimension in TWIKE driving since 2006. We gave the name "LION" to this lion-strong powerhouse.

Each TWIKE is equipped with a central battery monitoring system. This monitors capacity, total voltage, battery temperature and the total current in the battery. These data are shown to the TWIKE pilot via the display in the cockpit. Due to the very low self-discharge, the available range is only minimally reduced, even after a few days of downtime.

In 2006, the TWIKE was the first production vehicle to run on lithium-ion batteries. The Tesla Roadster came two years later. TWIKE pilots are simply pioneers. Since then, the range has increased continuously. Today we work with batteries that have a capacity of 9 Ah. A maximum of 7 batteries can be installed. With the then available 63 Ah, the TWIKE achieves a range of over 500 km (on normal distance with medium driving style). With increasing capacities the charging times naturally increase as well. To remedy this, we offer the XTRA Charger. With it, loading times can be halved. Find out more about it.
