TWIKE 5 - With bidirectional charging technology

At first glance, the connection refers to a simple plug on a standard household power cable. However, this cable is connected to a charging system, which, in addition to the efficient conversion process from single-phase or three-phase alternating current to regulated direct current for charging the traction battery, also ensures a perfect communication with a monitoring battery management system and a communicating charging station. At the same time, the charging system has to be sufficiently small, light and robust to be inconspicuously and reliably installed in the technical space of the TWIKE 5.

The bidirectional charging technology of AmbiBox GmbH from Mainz, Germany, masters all these tasks and even more. This technology will not only enable a bidirectional DC fast charging function via CCS. It also has a direct AC output to feed energy from the vehicle's traction battery back into the owner's house or into the grid.

2 am in the night: it’s windless, the TWIKE supplies your house

AmbiBox and TWIKE turn the buzzwords Vehicle to Grid (V2G) or Vehicle to Home (V2H) into reality, starting with the exclusive series of TWIKE 5. AmbiBox GmbH will act as a development partner and integrate its bidirectional DC charger into the vehicle architecture of the TWIKE 5. The SiC-based power electronics platform of AmbiBox will be used as a highly efficient on-board charger.

TWIKE pilots are entrepreneurs in the field of renewable energies and sustainability. They use their TWIKE like a scout uses his Swiss knife. It was therefore foreseeable that the new TWIKE 5 would have to offer additional customer benefits e.g. an energy storage system (ESS) for the household.
