E-Engine.de: Drag Race: it doesn’t always have to be Tesla …

Unique concept: TWIKE 5. The manufacturer has now published theoretical performance figures that are indeed surprising.

We have already reported on the TWIKE 5 several times. However, this exceptional vehicle with its sensationally low power consumption of less than 7 kWh per 100 kilometers can also do things differently. The manufacturer has just announced this. With its impressive drive system, the vehicle can complete the sprint from 0 to 100 in less than 3.8 seconds. This is already on a par with a real racing car such as a Model 3, a Kia EV6 GT or BMW iX xDrive 50 (let’s not even talk about combustion engines …)

The manufacturer asks itself in its blog: Does an electric vehicle that has already been optimized for the lowest possible fuel consumption have to prove itself at the same time with such brute acceleration manoeuvres? As soon as the maximum speed of 190 km/h was announced, which no longer seems up-to-date as a permissible driving speed, voices were raised about performance overkill.

The short answer would be: because you can. In reality, however, the aim is to prove that a three-wheeled vehicle with a certain degree of instability remains safe even at high speeds. The TWIKE 4 already proves the performance capability of the innovative axle concept as a “proof of concept”, which has been further optimized in details in the TWIKE 5.

Not everything has to be realized just because it is feasible. And which acceleration value ultimately makes it into series production is not yet determined by the theoretical possibility. But the combination of all properties (lightweight, aerodynamic, high electrical efficiency, agile and safe driving dynamics) will prove the point and thus whet the appetite for practical lightweight electric vehicles, which will also make a marketing statement for the entire industry in the spirit of its Swiss ancestor. And quite honestly: a bit of fun is a must.
