The manufacturer of the three-wheeled electric vehicle TWIKE is delighted with the response to the crowdfunding for the fifth generation of the vehicle. The funding threshold was recently exceeded for the sportiest and most powerful model to date – i.e. the minimum amount that must be raised in order for the funds provided to be paid out to the project initiator.
“Just three hours after the last email was sent, we jointly exceeded the funding threshold. Just 14 days later, the volume has already been doubled. That alone is a great success, which shows us what a strong community is behind TWIKE and supports our vision. Thank you!”, said the TWIKE team in a press release.
The crowdfunding for the TWIKE 5 is still in the “Family & Friends” round until August 11. The developers are hoping for further lively interest from the community. “A good starting point will help psychologically to attract new investors who may not even know about TWIKE yet,” they say. The possibility of being able to invest from 100 euros has opened a door for many interested parties, as the last few weeks have shown.
The maximum amount to be raised in this financing round is two million euros. Currently, around 322,000 euros have been raised. Around six million euros are estimated for the final development and start of production of the TWIKE 5. The funds are to be raised through equity investments and/or debt capital. The current shareholders are prepared to sell up to 20 percent of the company’s shares for equity financing.
Series production of the TWIKE 5 is scheduled to start in early 2023. Depending on the version, the price will range between €39,900 and €49,900, with a range of 250 or 500 kilometers. The manufacturer is calculating annual sales of 500 units, corresponding to a turnover of around €20 million. According to the company, there are currently 1,600 concrete prospective buyers and around €4.8 million in down payments.
The cost-optimized successor model, the TWIKE 6, is expected to be ready for series production in early 2024, with annual sales of 2,000 units planned. The Model 6 will be sold not only in Europe but also on the North American market. The costs for the development and initial production of the TWIKE 6 are expected to amount to around 12 million euros. The funds will be raised through debt and equity financing.

Das kostenoptimierte Nachfolgemodell TWIKE 6 soll Anfang 2024 serienreif sein, geplant ist ein Jahresabsatz von 2000 Stück. Das Modell 6 soll nicht nur in Europa, sondern auch auf dem nordamerikanischen Markt vertrieben werden. Die Kosten für die Entwicklung und die Erstproduktion des TWIKE 6 sollen etwa 12 Millionen Euro betragen. Die Mittel sollen durch Fremd- oder Eigenkapitalfinanzierung aufgebracht werden.
