Elektroauto-News.net: TWIKE record range (>500 km) at eRUDA

More than 100 electric vehicles took part in the electric vehicle tour eRUDA (electric around the Ammersee) on 29 and 30 June 2013. In two special tests, all participants were free to prove their range and suitability for everyday use.

In addition to the range record, the “TWIKE Pilots” team also won first place in the categories “Vehicle with the highest mileage” (192,000 km) and “Team with the most total kilometres” (962,000 km). As the overall ranking is very much based on the number of vehicles participating in a team, the TWIKE Pilots team was delighted to take overall victory in the first eRUDA with 16 vehicles.

The battery that made the range record possible is a series battery from TWIKE that has already been used in predecessor cells for seven years and in several hundred vehicles. It is a high-quality cell from Sony, which is assembled for TWIKE in Germany by the company BMZ. Since the introduction of this cell in 2007, space has been saved in the luggage compartment as a side effect. Previously, two to five battery packs with 5.6 Ah cells or five battery packs with the 7.6 Ah cells available since April 2013 were installed. This means that ranges of over 300 kilometres are already possible.

For the range test of the eRUDA, BMZ has now supplied a battery configuration with 7 × 7.6 Ah, which enables a capacity of around 18.5 kWh. For the two additional batteries, the battery compartment was reactivated, which is still familiar to long-time drivers from the days of nickel-cadmium batteries.
