forococheselectricos.com: The TWIKE 5 is a pedal-assisted tricycle that reaches 190 km/h and has a range of 500 km

A trike is a light electric vehicle (L.E.V.) that has a pedaling system assisted by an electric motor. A form of mobility with a certain popularity in Central Europe that mixes electric bicycle and car by adding a body that covers and closes the passenger compartment. But its evolution has been unstoppable and as an example the fifth generation of the Twike 5, which maintains the original philosophy, but adding a powerful electric motor and a high capacity battery.

A trike is a light electric vehicle (L.E.V.) with a pedal system supported by an electric motor. A popular form of mobility in Central Europe, it is a cross between an electric bicycle and a car by adding a body that covers and closes the passenger compartment. But its evolution has been unstoppable and as an example, the fifth generation TWIKE 5, which retains the original philosophy but adds a powerful electric motor and a high-capacity battery.

Although it retains the design of a trike, this model looks more like a car. And this despite the fact that elements such as the pedal assistance have been retained, which now no longer supports traction but takes care of recharging the battery. In this way, we can complete our journeys efficiently and with zero emissions, and we can also train to extend autonomy.

Weight is one of the hallmarks of this type of vehicle. In the case of the TWIKE 5, they have succeeded in limiting the weight to 500 kilograms despite all the additions. A value into which they have squeezed a 3.3 meter long, 1.5 meter wide and 1.2 meter high vehicle that offers space for two passengers and some cargo.

One of the special features of this type of vehicle is that it generally has no steering wheel. Instead, a system of side rods is used, each of which controls a steering function. In addition, the accelerator and brake are omitted and these functions are performed by the arms via these levers.

The engine is manufactured by Continental and has an output of 70 kW (95 hp) and a torque of 1,800 Nm. It can be combined with four battery capacities, which also determine the top speed and, of course, the range.

With the smaller 15-kWh battery , the TWIKE 5 can reach a top speed of 120 km/h and travel up to 150 kilometers per charge. With the larger 30 kWh battery, a top speed of at least 190 km/h and a range of over 500 kilometers is expected.

Its extreme efficiency, which according to initial tests results in an average fuel consumption of 6.9 kWh per 100 km, also contributes to this. An aspect that makes it possible to install small and lightweight batteries without sacrificing a considerable range.

For charging , you can use a three-phase socket with up to 22 kW, which is enough to achieve a range of 300 km in one hour.

It is clear that it will leave no one indifferent, especially when the price is known. According to the manufacturer, who expects production to start in 2022, prices are expected to range from 39,900 euros for the entry-level version to 49,900 euros for the most expensive version.

Madness? Genius? Everyone must judgethat for themselves.
