Rosenthal – In addition to this, the new hall offers more space for the development of new models as well as the further development of technologies and components. With one day of the open door was the new production area now officially inaugurated. Around 150 interested parties registered for the “Open Twike Day” – from all over Germany, but also from Switzerland and the Netherlands, said employee Annegret Pönisch.
Many of them took advantage of the offer to test drive one of the Twike models, including Christian Seeger from Melsungen, who took a spin in the Twike 3 with company co-owner Bernd Werner. “I see this as the future of mobility,” said Seeger, who runs an engineering firm specializing in energy efficiency: “Moving less mass consumes less energy.”
During the construction of the new hall, particular attention was paid to sustainability: it was designed as a timber frame structure and meets a higher thermal standard. The photovoltaic system mounted on the roof supplies the electricity required for production. A wood pellet system provides additional heating during winter operation and is operated as part of a local heating network. “Our father used to have a workshop here,” reported managing director Martin Möscheid at the open house, when he gave a brief overview of “how it all began” in a conversation with presenter Ulf Ramminger on stage.
On the site of the newly built hall, Martin Möscheid said that he and his brother Wolfgang—whom he described as a “great driving force” behind the founding of the company—used to “roll down the hill on go-karts” as children.
The focus was also on the new Twike 5, although only the frame was on display: “The vehicle can only be built in winter. We are still waiting for parts,” said company owner Bernd Werner.
Chassis specialist Dr. Axel Pauly provided information about the technology in the new model, which costs around €50,000 and was designed by the Rosenthal-based engineers in response to customer suggestions. “For example, we have developed a good solution for people with hip problems to get started,” reported Martin Möscheid. “There are already almost 2,000 reservations for the Twike 5,” said the managing director.
