What is the advantage of wide tires?
The choice of tires for the TWIKE 5 was made in consideration of various requirements. The primary consideration was the suitability for absorbing lateral forces. The previous tires of the TWIKE 3 are therefore only suitable to a limited extent, as the original motorcycle tires are designed for the radial forces that are more common on motorcycles. Due to the lower lateral forces of the TWIKE 3, the maximum speed of which is only 85 km/h and the nominal power is 3 kW, motorcycle tires are borderline but can still be used.
At speeds of over 100 km/h and the possible lateral acceleration, the TWIKE 5 no longer permits these motorcycle tires. The obvious and logical alternative are the lightest car tires with low rolling resistance and sustained high availability (the TWIKE 5 should also be able to be operated for more than 20 years), which can be used as summer and winter tires (the winter tire regulation also applies to three-wheeled motor vehicles such as the TWIKE).
As much as the tires of the TWIKE 5 are perceived as wide tires, they have been deliberately selected to be as light and narrow as possible in line with the required properties.
