TWIKE, the motorway-compatible , three-wheeled electric vehicle for two people, was developed 40 years ago at ETH Zurich – also inspired by the “Tour de Sol” – the concept for an efficient vehicle with muscle drive. The TWIKE 3 has been on the roads for 30 years , based on the same concept but with an electric motor and significantly greater range and speed. According to the manufacturer, around 250 vehicles are currently registered in Switzerland. It is built by the German company TWIKE GmbH in Rosenthal.
Limited series
Now comes the next development step, the TWIKE 5: “The same ideas still apply as 40 years ago, but adapted to the latest vehicle technology with a pedal generator for fitness training and contemporary comfort,” writes TWIKE in its press release. Almost 400 buyers have already secured a TWIKE 5 from the limited series of 500 vehicles before the start of production, it continues.
Premiere in der Schweiz
According to the company, TWIKE chief pilot Martin Möscheid will officially present the new model for the first time in Switzerland on 18 May 2025. The event will take place at the former Hasenstrick sports airfield in Dürnten in front of or in the hangar. All interested parties are welcome. An appointment must be booked in advance for a test drive.
The event was initiated by five TWIKE enthusiasts from the Zurich area, who also played a key role in financing the “community project.” The TWIKE 5 will be the first series-production vehicle to be co-developed and financed by the user community.
