TORQUE, the English term for torque, with the addition of XTRA in the TWIKE 5 stands for the option of unlocking higher performance in the lower and upper speed range.
Even in the basic version, the TWIKE 5 accelerates effortlessly and feels as if it is being pulled by an endless rubber band. The low weight in combination with a powerful drive, which can easily propel vehicles three times as heavy, is the decisive factor. The available power is therefore completely sufficient for normal everyday use. However, the hidden reserves further increase the robustness of the vehicle as designed.
But it was also exciting for the developers right from the start to sound out the physical limits of the new TWIKE and to gain valuable impulses for optimisation from these findings. This means that maximum torque can be used to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 4 seconds – only the slip on the tyres sets the limit. A higher top speed can also be achieved with higher torque in the upper speed range. And even then, only about 63% of the electric motor’s maximum potential is utilized. Nevertheless, the engine is limited at 190 km/h for reasons of common sense.
Despite the extra acceleration , the robustness should not suffer, which was achieved. This is because even at the higher torques in XTRA TORQUE mode, only around 63% of the possible maximum of the selected electric motor is utilised.
