    Hi Twike4two,

That sounds like a simple and practical solution: opt-in, through TWIKE, on a map that already exists. Adding charging points next to the service points makes a lot of sense. Let’s see what TWIKE thinks of it.

And to everyone else reading along: I’m curious about your reasons too. What made you choose a TWIKE?

    Best regards,
    Dirk

    Hi Twike4two,

Thanks for the kind words, and nice touch with the Dutch!

I like the idea. With a 600 km range we won’t need each other’s chargers often, but on longer trips a friendly place to top up, ideally with solar power, would be a great bonus. It would also add to the community feeling we talked about.

Rather than building a network from scratch, it might be easier to start by sharing private charging points through an existing platform, or a simple map within the community once the first TWIKE 5s are on the road. And if any TWIKE pilot ever passes through Belgium, they’re welcome to get in touch.

    Best regards,
    Dirk

Why TWIKE? A reply from Belgium

For me it starts with the name: TWIKE = twice + bike. Driving and moving at the same time, without one coming at the expense of the other.

I love cycling and train in a structured way, guided by a coach. What convinced me about the TWIKE 5 is that the pedal generator is completely decoupled from the wheels. In ERG mode, the TWIKE effectively becomes a home trainer on the open road. You pedal at the power you choose, regardless of speed or gradient, with real views and fresh air. With a power meter on board, every ride becomes a training session you can measure and track.

My big wish for the future: besides a fixed target power, the option to set up a sequence of training blocks in advance. Think of a warm-up, intervals and a cool-down that follow each other automatically. That would let you complete a fully structured workout during an ordinary ride, without having to adjust anything along the way. For me, the value of the generator isn’t in extra range, but in the training itself.

Then there’s the experience. With the targa roof off and the windows down, cruising at a relaxed pace feels almost like being on a bike, yet you’re sheltered when the weather turns. And the TWIKE is more practical than you’d think: my golf bag and trolley fit in the back, as do the groceries or everything you need for a day trip.

The ecological side matters too, of course. 685 kg and around 7 kWh/100 km are impressive figures, especially when charging with your own solar power. I see bidirectional charging as a welcome potential bonus, not as the main reason.

What also appeals to me is being a pioneer. You’re not buying a finished product; you’re joining a development in which the drivers’ voices are heard. You won’t find that kind of involvement with any other brand.

NatalyaC does have a point, by the way: this requires patience and trust, and it’s fair to say so. I went in with my eyes open and I know the risks. But that doesn’t make it a faith, it makes it a conscious choice.

What unites us as drivers? I don’t think it’s so much a statement against others, but a statement for something: movement, enjoyment and using energy wisely, all in one vehicle.

See you on the road, or at the charging station!

    Dirk (Pioneer, Belgium)
